Wife Swap - Tea Party - Religion Slapp in the Face

I'm watching this show Wife Swap ABC's Wife Swap out of sheer curiosity, well maybe just needed some (don't want to think moments).  The show is about two families who for two weeks trade wives.  During this episode, I listen to Mrs. Loudon, the wife of Senator John Loudon (R) of Missouri. Yes the same senator who is know for raising the weekly employment amount from $250 to $350.  What I find intriguing is that he is/was also known for the anit-SLAPP law a civil complaint filed against individuals or organizations arising from their communications to government speeches on in issue of public interest or concern. Most SLAPPs are ultimately legally unsuccessful. While most SLAPPs lose in court, they "succeed" in the public arena. This is because defending a SLAPP, even when the legal defense is strong, requires a substantial investment of money, time, and resources. The resulting effect is a "chill" on public participation in, and open debate on, important public issues. This "chilling" effect is not limited to the SLAPP target(s): fearful of being the target of future litigation, others refrain from speaking on, or participating in, issues of public concern. (To be discussed later)

The topic of the wife swap that interest me is Mr. Loudon's insistent behavior on "force feeding" scriptures surrounding marriage to the wife - Mrs. Envy.  Mrs. Envy is in a polyamorous -  the practice of having more than one sexual loving relationship at the same time_ relationship.  (She and her husband share a girlfriend, who lives in their home and sleeps in the bedroom.)

Mrs. Loudon writes her rules after the first week and one rule is that there will be no talk of religion or politics. If it occurs the members of the Loudon family must put a dollar int he kitty.  Mr. Loudon is so "hell bent" on getting HIS message out that he writes a check for about $200 that will enable him to preach HIS word.  I'm emphasizing 'His' word because in all of Mr. Loudon's  efforts to change Mrs. Envy's thinking on marriage via the scriptures he rejects some very important scriptures.  Mr. Loudon seeks to drown Mrs. Envy with scriptures from the Bible on this topic, so much so that he enters her (guest) bedroom to continue to badger Mrs. Envy after she departs from the room after Mr. Loudon drops his tithes in the kitty. Once inside the bedroom Mr. Loudon states he must tell her again about the scriptures on marriage because he does not want her blood on his hands!  Mr. Loudon is speaking to the scripture Ezekiel 3:18 - When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Let's be clear, Ezekial was a prophet, during the time when God pronounced judgment on both Isreal and surrounding nations.  The book is to remind us to seek the Lord during dark times and examine our own lives.  With that said, Mr. Loudon is using this scripture to justify his actions.  Actually the scriptures Mr. Loudon might want to read when testify to the Word of God are:

  • Matthew 7:6 - Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you
  • Titus 3:1-7King James Version (KJV) - 3 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. 3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Our words to others should not be quarrelsome, but show meekness on all occasions, not towards friends only, but to all men, through wisdom -

James 3:13 - 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
